This month my theme for book and movie choices has been either a comforting classic, or bust your gut comedy. For this week, I wanted something with a diverse cast, strong female characters, and a lot of laughs - but also a choice that still has some depth to it.
Kevin Kwan's "Crazy Rich Asians" seemed like a fun choice that ticked all of those boxes, so earlier this week you all heard from instagrammer @jessica_l_sherrill as she shared her thoughts on book 1 in the trilogy. I don’t know about you, but I'm definitely adding it to my amazon wish list.
"Crazy Rich Asians" touches on some tough issues such as superficial judgements and masculine/feminine roles, but still keeps things light with comedic breaks and absurd lavish parties 🥳. One of my favorites parts of the book/movie is the food. Singapore is known for its food scene, and there is even reference to Singapore being one of the only places where street food vendors can earn ⭐️Michelin stars⭐️.
For tonight's themed meals, I originally wanted to highlight some of the extradentary food in the book and movie, but the recipes are beyond complex! Instead, I've chosen Chicken Satay (courtesy of @misscrumbsalot) from the street vendor food scene, and for dessert - a Sticky Toffee Pudding recipe (courtesy of @thecafesucrefarine) as that is the first food we see Rachel and Nick share. 🍢🍮🍻
Recipes links, as well as an interview with @kevinkwanbooks from @Bonappetitmag, can be found in my linktr.ee. Thank you to all those bloggers out there making these amazing recipes available!
Happy Friday and have a great weekend everyone!
