It's Friday! Tonight is THEMED DATE NIGHT!! I have a lot of fun pulling these together as they give me the excuse to watch movies and try new recipes all in the name of "research". Tonight's movie is the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice, starring Kiera Knightly and Matthew Macfadyen. There are so many other fun versions, so I'll pop some of those in comments. Would love to hear what your favorite is!
The 21+ Beverage: Mr. Darcy 🍹(For those unable to imbibe - go with a nice Earl Grey tea ☕️)
Main Dish: White Soup
Side Dish: "Excellent Boiled Potatoes"
So I'm going to be honest with you. The White Soup recipe does require overnight chilling. I really wanted to find something that would be more readily accessible, but it was either the White Soup that requires overnight chilling or a massive and involved ham or turkey roast or partridge pie…and those were just no goes. What I do particularly enjoy about the White Soup dish is that it is specifically mentioned in Jane Austen's novel in reference to the Netherfield Ball. In tonight's movie, you can see Elizabeth Bennet enjoying a bowl at Rosings Park while being grilled by Lady Catherine de Bourgh.
The 🥔 Excellent Boiled Potatoes 🥔 I think is the most memorable dish from this movie and is incredibly meme-able as you all saw with this morning’s post 😂 A simple but effective side dish for any meal. If the chilled White Soup is not to your taste, you can always make an herb rich Turkey 🍗 or Ham 🍖 dish to go alongside these boiled potatoes.
Lastly, if you are more of a dessert person, check out @baked_byblair ‘s earl grey cake! They make awesome cupcakes too. I'll put a link to her cake recipe in my linktr.ee, along with a lot of other links to the recipes featured here and some other interesting pages I came across while researching.
What are you all getting into this weekend? Are you team "BBC" or "2005" for P&P movies?
